Gojjavalakki

Gojjavalakki is a Karnataka dish, gojju is thick, sweet and sour curry and avalakki is beaten rice. Gojjavalakki is made using tamarind pulp, it has a nice sweet and sour taste to it and this is one of my favourite, you will love it too!

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup thick avalakki
  • 1 tsp chili powder
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 tbsp tamarind pulp
  • 1 tbsp Powdered jaggery

Tempering:

  • 3 tbsp oil
  • 1/2 tsp mustard
  • 3 tbsp groundnuts
  • 1 tbsp channa dal
  • 1 tbsp urad dal
  • 2 red chilies
  • few curry leaves
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric
  • 20 gms MTR puliyogare powder

Method:

  1. Coarsely grind the avalakki.
  2. Soak the grinded avalakki in 1 tsp salt, 1 tsp chili powder, powdered jaggery, 2 tbsp tamarind pulp and 1/2 glass water.
  3. Add 3 tbsp of oil in a pan on medium heat, add 1/2 tsp of mustard seeds when it starts crackling add 3 tbsp groundnuts, a tbsp of channa dal and urad dal, few curry leaves, 2 red chilies, the puliyogare powder and haldi to the pan and saute for a while.
  4. Now add the avalakki to the pan and cook for a while.
  5. Garnish it with grated coconut and coriander leaves and serve it.
