Gasagase Payasa

Poppy seeds or gasagase in kannada or khus khus in hindi is very healthy and has many uses in food and medicine. The payasa or kheer made with this tastes amazing and here is the recipe for it. Did I mention its used as a sedative too, so cook this recipe eat a lot and sleep well :P.

Ingredients:

  • 2 tsp rice grains
  • 2 tbsp poppy seeds/gasagase/khus khus
  • 2 cups grated coconut
  • 1 cup powdered jaggery/bella
  • 500 ml water
  • Dry fruits
  • 1 tbsp ghee
  • 1/2 tsp cardamom powder

Method:

  1. Soak the rice grains in water for 1/2hr.
  2. Fry the poppy seeds/gasagase/khus khus till the color changes.
  3. Grind the seeds, rice grains and the grated coconut.
  4. add the ground mixture, jaggery/bella and water into a vessel and bring it to a boil (10-15 mins). Add cardamom powder after boiling and give it a stir
  5. Now fry some dry fruits in a tbsp of ghee and add it into the payasa/kheer.
